christmas movies by ana laura camara

Em Tudo Bem no Natal que Vem is a 2020 Brazilian film of the dramedy genre. It is the first Brazilian Christmas film produced by Netflix. Jorge (Leandro Hassum) is a grumpy man who has always hated Christmas and usually does everything to avoid celebrating that date. On the eve of the holiday, he falls from the roof and hits his head. When he wakes up, he realizes that he is living the Christmas of the following year, and he keeps reliving several Christmases in an endless cycle.

The film begins with a short story accompanied by photographs featuring Jorge, Hassum's character. Born on December 25th, the protagonist is a kind of Grinch, who over the years gave up celebrating his birthday on the most popular date of the year, which made him naturally hate Christmas. But the game changes when he marries Laura (Elisa Pinheiro), a holiday enthusiast who drags the rest of the family to the traditional New Year's Eve dinner.

With the plot starting on Christmas Eve 2010, Paulo Cursino's script ends up bringing to the screen a series of events that those who don't live in Brazil may find exaggerated, but which are easily identifiable: the traffic at the time, the huge queues at the supermarket, the infernal heat, the raisins in the rice and, of course, the family members who gather annually to celebrate the date. Constructed in such a true way that it becomes almost caricatured, the film does not hesitate to show the most striking figures of the Christmas dinner, such as the uncle of the pave, the family members with the same New Year's promises, the children eager to open their presents. and the inconvenient brother-in-law always asking for money.

Accompanied by Jorge's inevitable expressions and reactions, it becomes almost impossible not to see yourself in the film in any of these situations. The humor ends up being spontaneous and light, easy to follow and intended for any age — but that night is just the beginning of the adventure that Jorge is about to experience.

Soon Jorge, who hates the commemorative date, begins to live a kind of Groundhog Day, only on Christmas. After suffering an accident on December 24, 2010, the protagonist ends up waking up exactly one year later, about to celebrate another eve of the birth of Jesus. The plot consists of the mystery that he remembers absolutely nothing of what he has lived in the last 365 days, with memory limited to just the past Christmas.

Due to this time travel, Jorge must deal with the consequences of all his actions during the year, a plot that may end up sounding familiar to anyone who has watched Click, by Adam Sandler, or the classic romantic comedy De Repent 30. With only his wife Knowing about his new mental condition, Jorge ends up depending on Laura's revelations to find out how his financial, professional, family and even emotional situation is going, having only 24 hours to fix them.

The dynamic works well and much of the success is the responsibility of Hassum, whose delivery of the character is clear on screen. The actor lives Jorge on the edge of his skin, and in some scenes it's hard to say if the emotion comes from the good acting and sharp humor or the comedian's heart opening up right there. Creating "two Jorges" totally different (one who is even unfaithful to his wife and children), Hassum shines in front of the cameras and easily wins the public's charisma and fans.

Jorge finds himself completely lost after waking up on one of the Christmas Eves and noticing that his extramarital affair with Marcia (Danielle Winits, who suffers a typecasting once again living as a loud antagonist) has become his current relationship, alienating his children and especially his wife. wife. The feat, even if unfortunate, gives room for the film to deliver moments of romance for fans of the genre, without distracting from the premise.
