Some Expressions

We know that young Americans love to use expressions, whether in movies, series or in everyday life. But what about you? Do you know any of these?


To stand someone up: Dar um bolo em alguém.

You let me hanging: Você me deixou no vácuo.

Chip off the old block: Tal pai, tal filho. 

She/He showed up out of the blue: Ele/Ela apareceu do nada. 

It’s up to you: Você decide.

Go figure!: Vau entender!

If it were up to me…: Se dependesse de mim…

And so on: E assim por diante. 

That was the last straw: Essa foi a última gota.

Some other time: Fica para a próxima.
